Style: Craftsman/Modern, new construction, referral
Size: 3,000 sq. ft., 2-story, with 1,100 sq. ft. garage/workshop
Location: Suisun City, on the waterway, exclusive area with private boat dock

Scope of project: Started with raw land with water on two sides at the end of a secluded culdesac. Project required a foundation and soils engineer and an architect. Forbes performed all grading, excavation, and underground utilities installation prior to the build-out.

Distinguishing structural features: Very compact home, fits its environment well and shows an intelligent use of space. Major structural components were tied into the concrete and steel foundation and engineered lumber was used for various bands to accommodate some of the features for the interior.

Special appointments: Garage uniquely designed for the owner’s passion for auto restoration. All wood siding with wood trim was custom milled to give a Craftsman/Modern exterior style. Private boat dock with patios, decks, and stairways was integrated well into the landscape and home.

Project challenges: Main structure needed to conform to setbacks, thus limiting building placement. Expansive clay soil required an enormous amount of engineering for the foundation. A concrete and steel foundation was designed, 36 inches deep and 24 inches wide, consisting of grade beams running through the building and tied in monolithically with steel pieces.
